This was a no-brainer for me. I planned from the very beginning to be an indoor-only hydro gardener. Why? Too many variables and other stuff I don’t want to deal with outside – temperature, weather, insects, pests, rodents, varmints, birds, etc. etc. As a super logical thinker, I want to have as few variables as possible in the mix, and most of them can be eliminated by simply growing indoors.
Now, I am fortunate enough to occupy a 4 bedroom house by myself, so it will be easy enough to convert existing space into a grow room. Already have a room picked out, and my first forays will actually be done in the walk-in closet in that room. My eventual idea is to use the closet as a seedling closet. It already has shelving built in and plenty of space for a tray or five of seedlings.
I have seen setups that use very little space, lest you think you simply don’t have room to set up a system. A spare corner somewhere. Empty out a storage closet that’s full of things you haven’t touched in years. There are ways to make it work. If you have enough room to set down a 5-gallon bucket, and a few feet of vertical space above it – that’s enough to get started.
